BOSTON -- The Massachusetts Insurance Federation (MIF), an insurance company trade association currently comprised of 23 property/casualty insurers doing business in Massachusetts, has a new website: www.massinsurance.org
Federation members account for three-fourths of all private passenger automobile insurance written in the state, nearly two-thirds of all homeowners and workers compensation insurance, and three-fourths of all medical malpractice insurance. In addition to information describing the work of the Federation on behalf of its members, the Federation website also provides a link to the websites of each member company through the Members section of the site.
Federation members include: Allstate Insurance, Amica Mutual Insurance, Atlantic Charter Insurance, 21st Century Insurance, The Chubb Group, CNA Insurance, The Commerce Insurance Group, CUNA Mutual Group, Encompass Insurance, Firemans Fund, GEICO, The Hanover Insurance Group, The Liberty Mutual Group, The Norfolk & Dedham Group, The OneBeacon Insurance Group, Progressive Insurance, The ProMutual Group, The Quincy Mutual Group, The Safety Insurance Group, The Travelers Insurance Group, Travelers of Massachusetts, USAA and Zurich North America. Associate members include: the American Insurance Association, National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, Property Casualty Insurers Association of America, and Reinsurance Association of America.
Formed in 2003, the Federation is the largest insurance industry trade association in the Commonwealth and is viewed as the leading domestic advocacy voice of the property/casualty insurance industry. More specifically, founding Federation members have successfully promoted regulatory advances in private passenger automobile insurance from rates being set by government and residual market losses distributed by a pooling mechanism, to competitive rating and a residual market assigned risk plan. In addition, the Federation was instrumental in the passage of legislation exempting large commercial risks from rate and form filing requirements.
